Bio

Mike Nakauchi  began his performing career first as a baton twirler.  He holds 12 California State Titles, 9 National Championships, and continued to win the World Championship in 1993 in Marseilles, France.  He went on to flourish as a professional dancer, performing all over the country for five years with the Lula Washington Dance Theatre—a Los Angeles company that incorporates elements of modern, jazz, ballet, African, singing, and theatrics as a part of their repertoire.  His self-choreographed solo, Drawing the Line, was performed at the Ford Amphitheater as a part of the company repertory.  In a featured duet presented at UCLA’s Royce Hall, his performance was reviewed as "irrepressible", and was in the original cast of her famous Mahal Dances.

Other highlights include performing for the Beach Boys, Disneyland, Mtv, being a Goodwill Ambassador to Spain, and being invited to work with Cirque du Soliel.  He is asked to instruct and judge all over the country.  Recently, he has been invited to be on the Gold Panel of judges at Twirlmania, held in Walt Disney World, was part of a panel discussion for National Dance Week at the Lula Washington Studios, and assisted a National Champion baton team in Omaha, Nebraska  in winning the Gold at the World Competiton in Belgium.  He has been the Director of the Dance Department at Van Nuys High School since 2003.
