Beginner Dance
Outine
(Year 1)

Fall Semester:

  • Ballet
  • Ballet Vocabulary
  • Jazz
  • Modern
  • Prop
  • Prop Study project (Final Exam)
  • Hip Hop

Spring Semester:

  • Hip-Hop Ballet
  • Theater terminology & nomenclature
  • Character/Folk Dance  (topics vary from year to year and have included:  African, Swing, Gospel, Salsa)
  • Video Dance/Physical Fitness Testing (9th Graders) 
  • Art Dance Project
  • "Hollywood" Dance:  learn choreography from Bob Fosse's Chicago (Hot Honey Rag routine) or Can-Can Dance from Moulin Rouge
  • Dance Critique 
  • Teaching Project (Final Exam)
  • Hip Hop

Intermediate/Advanced
Outline
(Year 2)

Fall Semester:

  • Ballet
  • Jazz
  • Modern
  • "So U Think U Can Dance" quick study project
  • Historical Dance (Final Exam)
  • Hip Hop

Spring Semester:

  • Hip-Hop Ballet
  • Poem Dance Project 
  • Musical Theater Study/Lyrical
  • Resume'
  • Rehearse student choreography (for Dance Show)
  • Forced Music Project
  • Beginner's Dance Project (Final Exam)

Students repeating this level may be asked to do additional or alternate work, to keep the content new and invigorating for them.  This may include, but is not limited to:

Year 3: Teaching a Class,  Assigned Forced Music, Interview Dance, Improvisation

Year 4: Assigned Historical Dance, Substitute Teaching, Inspiration Project, Beginner Dance Field Study

Other: Restrictive, Theme & Variation, Counterpoint, Architecture/Nature Study,Nutrition, Sight Reading Music
